You may have forgotten what it was like not to have a "significant other." You feel alone, no one to discuss the day's events with, no one to help you with the chores, no one to give you support.

In very lay terms, it means is that generally if you purchase items in bulk, the unit price becomes much less expensive. It doesn't work that way with households. Housing is our highest expense, unless you have some medical issues or issues with addiction.

In your life it used to be at least two people sharing a roof, now there are two roofs, which means two mortgages or rent payments, two electricity bills, two water bills, etc. Water will probably be the same, but that's about it. Now there's no one to share those expenses.

We also can't take advantage of economies of scale because there are less people to purchase for, so the unit price goes up.

Recently single means life just got more expensive. That's why people move in together. But, you don't want to make that plunge just yet.
